Summary

This diploma thesis was focused on finding ideal conditions for the remediation of soils contaminated with petroleum hydrocarbon using microwaves. Initially, the soil sample was characterized by approximate analysis as well by the concentration of metals present in it. Then, the thermal desorpion method was applied using a modified household microwave oven, at adjustable power of 595 and 700W, at selected adsorption time (from 5 to 15 min), different soil granulometry (thin, coarse, mixture), different use of hydrocarbons (Hexadecane and diesel) aiming to find the most suitable conditions in order to achieve the greatest pollutant removal.
