Summary

The thesis is based on the analysis of the urban development of the traditional settlement of Parikia and the evaluation of the factors that led to its current form (problems, pathogenic prospects), in order to determine whether the character of the settlement is preserved or altered over time. This is a typical example of a settlement in the Cyclades that developed around the Castle, the oldest district of Parikia that reaches to the present day.First, a brief reference is made to the definition of traditional settlements, their characteristics in Greece and then the project refers to the institutional framework for its protection. Then the traditional architecture of the Cyclades is studied, with emphasis on the island of Paros and emphasis is placed on customary rules. A brief reference is made to the history and the settlements found in Paros and the traditional settlement of Parikia is studied in detail in terms of its historical and urban development, from the beginnings of its constitution to the legislation of its urban plan. Finally, the urban planning and analysis of the current form of the settlement in terms of land uses, the traffic network, the public space in relation to tourism is presented.
