The purpose of the current dissertation thesis is to highlight the importance of the existing, prevailing environmental conditions for the protection of the karstic aquifer in the area of Agia, Chania. Today, the aquifer provides drinking water of excellent quality and in sufficient quantity, to the residents and visitors, in the area of Chania, especially during the summer (tourist season), when the drinking water needs are increasing significantly. The objective of this thesis is the analysis of the critical geofactors, in order to identify the necessary actions, which must be implemented and which will lead to the further sustainable management of the karstic aquifer in the abovementioned area. In particular, the geofactors that will be examined are the geological formations, the hydrological and tectonic conditions that prevail in the area. The method that will be used is based on the acquisition and processing of data, such as the prevailing climatic conditions, the existing quantity of water in the reservoirs and its chemical analysis, resulting in safe conclusions and aiming to the further sustainable exploitation of of the karstic aquifer in the area of Agia, Chania.
