With climate change now having a serious impact on life on the planet, changing the way we manage energy is a challenge that the world must collectively address. Every country must take measures to increase energy efficiency and use sustainable energy sources, while reducing dependence on fossil fuels and greenhouse gas emissions. Economic development, public awareness and institutional frameworks are factors that can facilitate or hinder an energy transition in a country. For this reason, investigating whether a country is ready to make such a transition requires consideration of several factors. In this research, a multi-criteria analysis methodology is presented to assess a country's readiness for energy transition by dividing the problem into four assessment dimensions: social, political, economic and environmental. Specifically, 26 European countries are scored and ranked based on their level of readiness for the energy transition using the UTASTAR multi-criteria analysis algorithm.
