This research paper examines the urban redevelopment of Barcelona’s coastal zone with a particular focus on the changes that took place before, during, and after the 1992 Olympic Games. The hosting of the Games served as a catalyst for large-scale citywide transformation, radically converting the previously degraded coastline into a modern urban space of high quality and functionality. Prior to the Olympic period, the area was characterized by industrial decline and limited access to the waterfront. During the preparations for the Games, extensive urban redevelopment plans were implemented, which included the renewal of the coastal area, the development of new infrastructure, and the enhancement of accessibility. Following the Games, Barcelona continued to invest in tourism and development, maintaining the coastal front as a key component of the city's new identity. This paper includes a brief historical overview of Barcelona’s urban development from the Middle Ages to the present day and analyzes the urban redevelopments undertaken for the 1992 Olympic Games, as well as other major events that acted as catalysts in shaping Barcelona's current image.
