Summary

This thesis is an attempt to investigate the feasibility of applying classification and analysis methods to the inventory of medicines in a hospital pharmacy. The result of these methods is to create categories based on specific criteria, through which inventory control becomes more selective. The first chapter describes inventory ordering policies. The second chapter presents specific features of inventory in a hospital pharmacy. The third chapter discusses the main classification methods that can be applied to a pharmacy, namely ABC, FSN, HML, XYZ and VED. In the fourth chapter, these methods are examined and evaluated for the pharmacy at the General Hospital of Chania.
