Summary

The object of the present dissertation is the development of a operational simulation model of two different types of elevators with the aim of their economic evaluation. The operation of a mechanical and a hydraulic lift are studied and their results are compared in terms of the energy consumed. The first part presents a brief overview of the history and evolution of the elevator, as well as the different elevator categories found to date. Furthermore, the two different types of electric and hydraulic elevator model are further analyzed, in terms of their main installation parts and their advantages. In the fourth part, an appropriate code is developed to simulate the operation of the two elevator models in an office building. The basic characteristics of calculating the required mechanical power for each model of elevator in each return trip are analyzed, based on a study of the circulation of an elevator, as well as the factors that affect it. Finally, the results of the simulation in terms of energy consumed on an annual basis are presented. Taking into account the results of the fourth chapter, in the last main chapter the installation of a suitable battery in the network was studied in order to further reduce the cost of using an elevator. To simulate the installation, an appropriate cost minimization algorithm was used and multiple scenarios were developed regarding the day, the type of elevator installed in the building, as well as the cost of electricity, in order to highlight the efficiency of the algorithm in a wide variety of conditions. Finally, the conclusions are presented, based on the results obtained from the multiple simulations. It also analyzes whether the battery installation achieves the energy saving goal and whether it is considered profitable.
