Summary

The present study attempts a journey in painted representations of "Erotokritos" and highlights the trends between Modernism and Tradition in Greek art of Interwar period. In major compositions of visual artists of the "Generation of 1930" are sought elements of “Greekness”, Cretan Renaissance and Greek artistic tradition (Classical, Hellenistic, folkbyzantine and folk-naïf art). Moreover the study reveals the influence of the European Modernism on important Greek artists` work
