Summary

As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent war in Ukraine that brought the energy crisis and rising inflation, supply chains were exposed to the biggest disruption they had faced in decades. This thesis will explore the supply chain in the context of health care services (healthcare supply chain - HSC), which is complex due to the great specificity and diversity of supplies, equipment and services provided. In addition, it is riskier, as its reliability and stability have a direct impact on public health. The main objective of this paper is to study the way the supply chain operates in Health Systems and in particular in the University General Hospital of Heraklion. Other objectives of the study are toinvestigate the impact during periods of crisis (economic, pandemic, war, energy) on the supply chain and service delivery as well as to examine the new technologies and tools (e.g., RFID, IoT) that can be used by the supply chains of health systems for their survival and to enhance their sustainability and resilience.
