Summary

In this thesis, the financial analysis of five food companies was studied through the financial ratios tool for the period 2017-2021, so that it became possible to examine how the pandemic of COVID 19 affected the sector.More specifically, from what was analyzed in this paper, it became clear that the food sector was significantly affected by the pandemic, as all the activity and efficiency indicators of the companies showed a significant deterioration in 2020, while especially in the field of efficiency, most of the examined companies of the sector were showing losses after taxes. On the contrary, the food sector and the majority of the examined companies showed an improvement in the field of liquidity in the midst of the pandemic, while with regard to the capital structure, all the examined companies base their activity on loan capital and not on equity, a fact which has the consequence that these companies are exposed to credit risk. Finally, as regards the company that is in the most unfavorable position, this is SAVOIDAKIS SA, which shows losses after taxes instead of profits throughout the period under review, while with the exception of year 2020 it continuously shows negative equity in the period 2017-2021. This development makes the need to take measures on the part of the company vital, so as not to further threaten the viability and solvency of the company.
