Summary

Teleconnections are well known to affect weather conditions of various areas around the globe through complicated atmospheric mechanisms. The objective of this thesis is to test the effect of various – sole or combinations of them - teleconnection indices on the precipitation of Messara water basin in Crete. Due to the complex nonlinear correlations that teleconnections and precipitation exhibit, along with partly undefined physical mechanism of teleconnections, Artificial Neural Networks were used to establish correlations.
