Summary

The scope of fulfillment of this specific dissertation is the research of the effects of climate change in the Mires- Timpaki groundwater aquifer Heraklion Crete for the period 2050-2095, using the PTC model (Princeton Transport Code Model) and based on the RCP4.5-RCP8.5 climate scenarios. Initially, in the theoretical part of the project, the equations and the marginal conditions which determine a system of underground flow are analysed, as well as the under consideration PTC model ,while the two predominant methods of the model’s implementation are mentioned, the one of the finite facts and the other of the finite differences. Subsequently, a brief description of the region of Mires in the prefecture of Iraklio is given with detailed meteorological and climatic facts as well as facts concerning geology, the principles of groundwater Engineering (hydrogeology) and the natural environment of the region. Additionally, the steps of the model’s implementation are thoroughly detailed in conjunction with both climatic scenarios for the purpose of the decision of the results. Lastly, a comparison of them is made for the two under consideration scenarios, analyzing the hydraulic heads at four different location for the period 2050-2095.
