Summary

In the laboratory experiment, fifteen participants were divided into three groups and were asked to navigate through a digital space created within the "Unity" application, consisting of three rooms. In each room, they were required to solve a simple puzzle to proceed to the next room and to answer a brief questionnaire regarding the difficulty of the gameplay, lighting conditions, spatial perception, and more. The first part of the experiment aimed to study how the reduction of the visual field affects the users. The visual field was varied in three different natural lighting conditions (morning light, twilight, darkness), while the materiality remained constant in each room. In the second phase, a second experiment was conducted in the same environment, keeping the brightness and visual field constant in each room. However, the materiality of the walls was altered first, with all the furniture lacking any material, and subsequently, the opposite scenario was applied. The goal of the second part was to observe, through the questionnaires and monitoring of the users' gameplay, how their perception of space and experience is influenced by the variation in materiality. At the end of both experiments, after analyzing the results from the questionnaires, certain conclusions are drawn regarding the conditions that appear to effectively create an atmosphere of mystery and suspense for the users.
