Summary

The poster will provide an overview of the steps and achievements of the Greek OpenAIRE National Open Access Desk (NOAD), Athena Research Center (coordinator) and Hellenic Academic Libraries Link (HEAL-Link), in aligning national research practices with “open” European developments. In achieving that, work is based on activities around a policy-infrastructure-training nexus, involving at the institutional and national level academic and research stakeholders to discussions and stimulating appropriate actions. Athena Research Center’s (ARC) involvement in European projects for Open Science (OS), also with respect to the EOSC, places an emphasis on the communication and compliance with EC requirements and on the EOSC national settings implementation. ARC strives to influence collaborations and coordination of national activities, as well as to promote and support adoption of OS best practices that incorporates in national projects. HEAL-Link, being at the core of knowledge production in Greek Higher Education Institutions, have early on recognized the benefits of the Open Access (OA) movement. Their support has been mainly on open publishing practices by liaising with publishers and establishing institutional repositories. HEAL-Link recently embarked on the development of data repositories and capacity building. The poster places a pin of interest on the European map of OS initiatives. The national context, including the cultural and economic conditions, together with the progress on the international level, have been drivers of transformation of the open science field. The delineation of the progress follows the structure of OSPP Recommendations and the eight streams of actions. The coalition of the two bodies has boosted the OpenAIRE NOAD’s activities for supporting OA, FAIR data management, harmonization of policies, increase of awareness and training of relevant stakeholders. The coalition is constantly pursuing political support to its endeavors and recent endorsements and mandates are facilitating the change that the researchers need.
