Melabes is a mountainous traditional village located in the municipality of Agios Vasileios, Rethymno, Crete. The settlement of Melabes has a declining population which put its traditional character at risk.. At the same time, it has developmental prospects in the fields of agriculture and alternative tourism. This thesis provides an urban analysis of the settlement, examining its development from its early forms to the present day. The main goal is to look into the land uses, the road network, public spaces and how its architectural and traditional characteristics have been evolved. From the analysis and evaluation, it is evident that the village has prospects for restructuring. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to propose solutions for all sectors mentioned above. Additionally, new ways of attracting new residents who can offer new prospects to the village are being explored (e.g., Digital Nomads). The final proposal is framed with contemporary techniques and smart technological solutions, aiming to improve life in the settlement and to promote and highlight it to the visitors. Emphasis is thus placed on alternative tourism, agriculture, science, and the technological education of the residents.
