Summary

On the occasion of our interest in the graphic elements found in Greek traditional handicrafts, we wondered ways that they could be included and used as tools of visual communication and shaping the identity of a cultural space or even a wider cultural network. The BEM building in Metaxourgeio was chosen for the establishment of this cultural space. The choice was influenced by the direct connection of the industry to the use of traditional Greek graphic elements in the design of handkerchiefs. The former handkerchief workshop is transformed into a small-scale museum through the remodeling of its interior as well as the inclusion of new functions, creating an experiential experience that both highlights the popular traditional elements of our country, as well as the techniques used to produce the handkerchiefs. Through the analysis and processing of the motifs found in traditional Greek crafts, new motifs were created which were integrated into the architectural elements of the museum and contributed to shaping and highlighting its identity.
