Summary

The present research deals with the importance of collective housing as a possible scenario for managing abandoned industrial zones. A full in-depth study of the concept of “collective” is carried out during the period of industrialization, focusing on the area of habitation and aiming to analyze the adverse effects caused by deindustrialization on the urban landscape. The historical course shows that the above events are a foundation for creating complexes with the main use of collective housing, as they allow the development of new innovative structures for both the historical industrial shell and its surrounding environment. This approach is confirmed through the investigation of European examples of brownfields regeneration, from which the social, economic and cultural benefits conferred upon a city.
