Summary

This research paper attempts to understand the relationship between artists and the phenomenon of gentrification. More specifically, it explores what happens when artists choose to settle in deprived areas and how their movement triggers gentrification. It first seeks to identify the causes of this choice of artists and then tries to find out how their actions manage to revitalize these areas, shaping a bohemian atmosphere and creating artistic neighborhood communities. The research expands as it is asked to find out what happens during and after the revitalization of the areas. This last stage in the study of the areas is a turning point in their history, as it is when the first signs of gentrification appear. With the phenomenon of gentrification, will be associated, the state, market forces, non-artistic actors, wealthy people and people from the upper social class, who will be attracted by the new conditions of the areas and who will play a catalytic role in their development, gradually changing their original artistic atmosphere. The progress of the areas will be studied up to their present reality, where it will be determined to what extent the artistic character of the areas has been altered and whether or not they are now places of memory of an irreversible past.
