This research paper examines the use and utilization of colours in the design of mental health units, for improving the mental well-being of patients. Itanalyses how different colour palettes and the choice of a colour in space affect the psychological state of individuals, considering the role of light,both natural and artificial, in the creation of the desired atmosphere. Through bibliographical research on the psychology of colour, the psychologyof the individual, and in particular of mentally ill persons, the psychological reactions caused by colours and the ways in which they can be appliedin therapeutic environments are presented. The purpose of the paper is to highlight the importance of appropriate colour selection and lighting inthe design of spaces that promote calm, stability and general the psychological balance of patients, suggesting design choices regarding the use ofcolour in the case of therapeutic environments, thus contributing to a quality mental health building and environment.
