“Art and Therapy: two processes inherently connected and mutually enriching — Art as the expression of the soul, and Therapy as its care.” Art Therapy is a form of psychotherapy in which the therapeutic relationship is enhanced and deepened through creative processes. In recent years, this practice has been gradually integrated into various therapeutic settings in Greece. However, it remains still insufficiently organized. This thesis proposes the design of an Art Therapy Center where painting, ceramics, music, drama, and dance serve as tools for expression, socialization, personal growth, and support. A site analysis of Chania determined the location for the design at the middle cape of Agioi Apostoloi, with direct access from the city center. As part of the design, it is proposed to utilize the existing buildings on the rocky islet, transforming them into spaces for visitation and offices. Additionally, a new semi-underground structure is suggested on the northern edge of the cape, offering panoramic views of the sea and housing the art therapy workshops. The design approach aims to create a unified space in close connection with nature — a shared common ground that fosters social interaction while maintaining levels of privacy necessary for the spiritual depth of the therapeutic process.
