The subject of this research paper is the study of the evolution of hotel units on the Athenian Riviera from 1970 to the present, with a focus on comparing their energy footprint every 15 years. The paper begins with the concept of the "Riviera," which traces its origins to the British coastlines of the 19th century. Historically, the Riviera was primarily aimed at high social classes, with the French Riviera being the most prominent example. Visits to these areas were not only a matter of social prestige but were also associated with health and well-being. The paper then analyzes the Athenian Riviera, starting with the first bathing facilities in Phaleron Bay and continuing into the modern era. Finally, the selected hotel complexes are examined based on specific criteria, followed by a detailed review of their energy behavior. The analysis concludes that, despite the dynamic start of the Athenian Riviera's hotel sector with a modern approach for its time, it is now lagging behind contemporary standards. Specifically, the demands of the current era necessitate the transition to energy-friendly and autonomous hotel infrastructures, which represents a significant challenge for the region.
