Summary

The energy transition, especially in recent years, has emerged as a key global priority, with offshore wind farms playing a key role in promoting sustainable solutions and reducing dependence on fossil fuels. Greece, due to its geographical location, climatic conditions and diverse topography, enjoys ideal conditions for the exploitation of wind energy. However, the viability of the possible development of offshore wind farms raises concerns. In the context of this paper, the impact of a hypothetical OWF project on the island of Paros is evaluated through a survey using a questionnaire and addressed to the stakeholders of the project. The questionnaire was structured by utilizing information on the benefits and challenges in existing OWF projects and RES in general and was chosen to span the three pillars of sustainability (Environment, Economy, Society), thus better assessing the socio-cultural dimensions of an environmental project. The analysis of the results led to interesting conclusions on how the same project can be evaluated differently by each actor, judged by collective interest, personal benefit, concerns from deviation from social and environmental norms and the new perspectives that each innovative action can offer.
