Summary

The museum, along with its various forms and typologies, has existed for several centuries. Throughout this time, both its architecture and the way exhibits are presented have evolved. Today, immersive environments have been incorporated into the museum space to a greater or lesser extent. The aim of this research project is to study how immersive technologies, and by extension immersive environments, have influenced the museum space, and conversely, to explore how architects can design new spaces that integrate these technologies. The research begins by studying the evolution of museum typology from antiquity to the present day and continues with a historical overview of immersive technologies. It then presents examples of museums that use analog means to create immersion. Finally, it explores the impact of immersive environments on museum spaces, with a focus on case studies such as the Fresh Water Pavilion by NOX and the Mori Building Digital Art Museum by teamLab Borderless.
