| Content Summary | Η παρούσα διπλωματική αναπτύσσει έναν διάλογο μεταξύ παρελθόντος και μέλλοντος, προσωρινότητας και ευελιξίας. Το έργο επαναχρησιμοποιεί ένα απειλούμενο με κατεδάφιση μοντερνιστικό βιομηχανικό συγκρότημα που βρίσκεται στο λιμάνι του Πειραιά και ανήκει στον Οργανισμό Λιμένος Πειραιώς. Στόχος είναι η μετατροπή του σε ένα βιώσιμο αστικό πόλο έλξης μέσω της δημιουργίας ενός ακαδημαϊκού και τεχνικού κέντρου αφιερωμένου στη γνώση και την εφαρμογή παραδοσιακών και σύγχρονων κατασκευαστικών τεχνικών. Με τη συνύπαρξη τεχνικών για την πέτρα, το ξύλο, το μέταλλο και τον πηλό, σε συνδυασμό με προηγμένες τεχνολογίες όπως η ρομποτική, το κέντρο στοχεύει στην αναβίωση των παραδοσιακών τεχνικών κατασκευής, εμπλουτισμένων με καινοτόμες προσεγγίσεις. Η σύνθεση μεταμορφώνει το αστικό τοπίο μέσα από μια σύνθεση ανοιχτών χώρων, ελεύθερης κίνησης και διαλόγου με το περιβάλλον. Αντί να αποδεχτεί τη μοίρα των βιομηχανικών κτιρίων από σκυρόδεμα μετά τον Β’ Παγκόσμιο Πόλεμο - που συχνά απορρίπτονται ως αναποτελεσματικά και ξεπερασμένα - το έργο προτείνει έναν ολιστικό μετασχηματισμό μέσω μιας στρατηγικής επαναχρησιμοποίησης που εξισορροπεί την αρχιτεκτονική διατήρηση, την ενεργειακή απόδοση και τις υλικές περιβαλλοντικές επιπτώσεις. Βασική αρχή του μετασχηματισμού είναι η αντιστρεψιμότητα, ώστε να διασφαλιστεί ότι οι τροποποιήσεις δεν περιορίζουν τη μελλοντική προσαρμοστικότητα, ενισχύοντας έτσι τη μακροπρόθεσμη ευελιξία. Ο σχεδιασμός επικεντρώνεται στην κοινότητα και τη συνεργασία: εσωτερικές αυλές, ημιυπαίθριοι χώροι, εργαστήρια, στούντιο δημιουργών, εκθεσιακοί χώροι, βιβλιοθήκη και γραφεία, όλα συνδεδεμένα μέσω μιας κοινής πλατφόρμας-διαδρόμου, η οποία λειτουργεί ως οργανωτικός και συμβολικός άξονας του έργου. Η πρόταση δίνει ιδιαίτερη έμφαση στη βιωσιμότητα, προωθώντας τη χρήση ανακυκλώσιμων υλικών και την επαναχρησιμοποίηση υφιστάμενων στοιχείων του χώρου. Στόχος είναι η δημιουργία ενός πολυλειτουργικού χώρου εκπαίδευσης, δημιουργίας και έρευνας, που θα λειτουργεί ως πυρήνας για την κοινωνική και πολιτιστική ενεργοποίηση της περιοχής, ενισχύοντας τη σύνδεση της τεχνικής γνώσης με την εκπαιδευτική και παραγωγική διαδικασία. Η προσέγγιση αυτή επαναπροσδιορίζει την αποκατάσταση όχι ως μια απλή συγκρατημένη προσπάθεια, αλλά ως μια δυναμική και βιωματική διαδικασία προσαρμογής που προάγει την αστική ανθεκτικότητα. | el |
| Content Summary | This project unfolds a careful dialog between past and future, permanence and adaptability. The project reimagines a demolition-threatened modernist industrial complex situated in the Port of Piraeus, owned by the Piraeus Port Authority. The goal is to transform it into a sustainable residential, cultural, and socially inclusive urban attractor. Through the creation of an academic and technical centre dedicated to the knowledge and application of traditional and modern construction techniques. By the coexistence of techniques for stone, wood, metal and clay, combined with advanced technologies such as robotics, the centre aims to revive traditional construction techniques, enriched with innovative approaches. The composition transforms the urban landscape through a synthesis of open spaces, free movement and dialogue with the environment. Rather than accepting the fate of post WWII concrete buildings—often dismissed as inefficient and outdated —the project proposes a holistic transformation through an adaptive reuse strategy that balances architectural preservation, energy performance, and material environmental impact. A key principle of the transformation is reversibility to ensure that the modifications do not limit future adaptability, thus enhancing long-term flexibility and reuse. The design focuses on community and collaboration: internal courtyards, semi-outdoor spaces, workshops, makers' studios, exhibition spaces, library and offices, all connected through a common platform-corridor, which acts as an organizational and symbolic axis of the project. The proposal places particular emphasis on sustainability, promoting the use of recyclable materials and the reuse of existing elements of the site. The aim is to create a multi-functional space for education, creation and research, acting as a nucleus for the social and cultural activation of the area, reinforcing the link between technical knowledge and the educational and productive process. Introducing affordable housing, public programs, and cultural initiatives, the project transforms an isolated structure into a vibrant hub for community life.
