Summary

This diploma thesis explores the study and architectural proposal for the monastic complex of Prophet Elias in Tyrnavos. It concerns a site of historical and spiritual significance, situated within a natural landscape of exceptional beauty and tranquility. The aim of the project is to reintegrate the monastic complex into the contemporary cultural fabric of the region, through the restoration of existing structures and the addition of new facilities that serve both religious functions and activities related to hospitality, culture, and contemplation. The proposal does not seek to introduce something foreign. Instead, it follows the lines already implied by the landscape, adding a new spatial trace that engages in dialogue with the katholikon and envisions the development of a monastic ensemble that harmonizes solitary reflection with collective experience. New cells, spaces of silence and communal activity, and open courtyards are organized around the site's spiritual core. The architectural composition does not merely aim to complete the place, but to listen to it — to become the vessel for a renewed monastic everyday life, where silence, community, and architectural humility coexist in balance.
