Summary

This study investigates the relationship between European urban areas and riverfront landscapes in the era of climate crisis. It examines how cities can reconnect with their rivers through redevelopments that address the challenges of extreme environmental phenomena, such as floods, while incorporating high ecological standards. The objective is to explore best practices by codifying design tools that can protect cities from flooding and enhance residents' connection with the natural landscape. Through case studies, strategies and design interventions are analyzed along with their implementation. The study raises questions about the design approach for different rivers depending on diverse urban environments, while seeking to redefine human interaction with natural landscapes and promote sustainability in the cities of the future.
