Since the late 20th century to the present day, the flowering of a new, enduring trend in architecture, defined by unique and distinct characteristics, has been observed worldwide. Post-minimalism emerged in the 21st century with characteristics from movements such as Minimalism, Contextualism and Phenomenology. The combination of the above leads to a particular way of thinking and practice, mainly recognized in Mediterranean countries. In the first chapter, the ideology behind the movements and trends that lead to Post-minimalism are analyzed, while at the same time, an attempt is made to define its complex and, as yet, unfounded theoretical basis. Subsequently, significant contemporary buildings in Spain and Portugal are selected and analyzed, based on their compositional principles, interior space, materials and their relationship with the surroundings, thus creating a list of unique characteristics of the movement. Finally, the projects are compared, common and different principles are identified, defining the common design axis, but also the distinction of local elements and the cultural heritage of each country is made, completing the analysis at the level of theory and practice.
