It has been demonstrated that triclosan, a phenolic polychlorinatedaromatic hydrocarbon, can be accumulated into aCNP-PDDAC film electrode and determined within the concentrationrange 0.5–50M by direct oxidation. The resultingpoly-phenoxy coupling products appear to be of relatively lowmolecular weight and are readily desorbed into organic solventsand the electrode can be re-used. The structural stability of theCNP-PDDAC layer-by-layer deposit was found to be sensitiveto multiply charged hydrophobic anions in particular in alkalinesolution. Further study of the reactivity, stability, and applicationof these films in quantitative analysis will be required and thestructural parameters e.g. the type of PDDAC polymer chainlength need to be optimized. Overall, the electrostatic bindingeffect and the combined use of solid phase extraction andelectrochemical detections are proposed as new methodologicaldevelopments.
