On 15 November 2006, Crescent City was struck by a mod-erate tsunami that caused significant financial losses. Tis was the first significant tsunami loss on U.S. territory since the1964 Alaska tsunami. All of the damage occurred more than six hours aer alerts had been canceled by WCATWC. Five previous tsunamis in the past 50 years from similar-sized Kuril Islands earthquakes caused no damage in Crescent City. e 15November 2006 tsunami illustrates the very narrow boundary between damaging and nondamaging events, and the vulner-ability o small-boat basins and aging harbor structures to a moderate event
