Summary

On 15 November 2006, Crescent City was struck by a mod-erate tsunami that caused significant financial losses. Tis was the first significant tsunami loss on U.S. territory since the1964 Alaska tsunami. All of the damage occurred more than six hours aer alerts had been canceled by WCATWC. Five previous tsunamis in the past 50 years from similar-sized Kuril Islands earthquakes caused no damage in Crescent City. e 15November 2006 tsunami illustrates the very narrow boundary between damaging and nondamaging events, and the vulner-ability o small-boat basins and aging harbor structures to a moderate event
