Content SummaryThis article introduces the mathematical theory of evidence in classifying remote sensing images. Its main intent is to introduce the less familiar concepts of belief functions in image classification. The belief function can be considered as a generalisation of the classical Bayes probability function that includes, however, a way to assess the strength of evidence. To illustrate the theory of evidence, seven examples are given.en
