Summary

The present study examines the nutrients andmicronutrients availability of uncultivated soilsoriginated from different parent rocks. Thestudy areas include four types of parent rockswith different geological origin, from acidic toultramafic. The parent rock mineralogy and thenutrients available in soils are in strong relationship.Mineralogy, particle size distribution andchemical composition of the soil samples werestudied jointly with the nutrient content of soilsolution. High magnesium availability in soilsof Anogia area is related with the alterationproducts of the ultramafic rocks. Potassium contentof the soils exhibits no relation with the geologyof the area. Micronutrients, iron and manganese, shows strong dependence to the bulkchemistry and mineralogy of the parent rockmaterial. In contrast no interrelation detectedbetween zinc and copper availability in soil andparent material.
