Content SummaryThe objective of this paper is to apply the Hybrid Efficiency Loss Minimization control scheme [1] into a FOC controlled ACIM motor drive in order to improve the fast on-line loss minimization control through flux control,. The proposed controller combines a Loss Model Controller (LMC) to control the transient states and a Fuzzy Logic Search Control system (FLSC) to control steady states. The LMC is based on a simple generalized model for various motor types with low accuracy, which provides the real time fast gross approximation of the optimum motor flux, as a function of the torque and speed operating conditions, not causing significant torque ripples. Sequently the FLSC control system, which consists of two interacting fuzzy controllers, provides the real-time refinement of the motor’s flux adjustment on the basis of search during the steady states. Due to the FLSC the motor’s flux level fluctuates in steps until the measurement of drive’s power losses settles at a minimum. The proposed hybrid controller is incorporated as an outer loop in an indirect flux oriented vector controlled drive. The model of the suggested controller designed by using the MATLAB/Fuzzy Logic Toolbox®. The control scheme is validated by simulation through the eZdspF2812TM board using Code Composer StudioTM IDE environment for a FOC AC Induction Motor (ACIM) drive. In order to validate the importance of the efficiency optimization during transient states, the same simulations are done with and without including the computations by LMC. Experimental results will be available upon conclusion of the laboratory testing by using the eZdspF2812TM. en
