Summary

This paper aims to present a novel architecture forthe indoors Ambient Assisted Living domain. This domainsynthesizes features from the home-based e-health and ambientintelligence scientific areas. The HERA system addressesmainly the needs of elderly in the early stages of the Alzheimerdisease aiming to improve the quality of their home life andextend its duration. Other user categories are elderly sufferingfrom cardiovascular diseases and diabetes. The novelty of thisarchitecture is the use of the TV and Set-Top-Box probablyalready existing in a user’s home (and the remote control withwhich the user is familiar) providing services from anapplication server integrating agent technology-based personalassistance.
