Content SummaryThe proposed thesis deals with modeling and control of the future power system often referred to as the Smart Grid. Smart Grid is designed to improve energy efficiency and grid reliability by increasing the connectivity, automation and coordination between power suppliers and end consumers. In particular Fuzzy or Model Predictive Control (MPC) will be applied as a control and optimization method for intelligently enabling flexible energy resources. Energy Management System (EMS) for end consumer shall be proposed. This system develops an algorithm for smart meter which is integrated between distribution grid and end consumers. The smart meter determines when to draw the energy from the grid or the storage unit for consumption. The objectives of the intelligent EMS are: (i) to save the cost for consumers by shifting the power drawn from the grid from high cost period to low cost period. (ii) to avoid grid overload by shifting the power drawn from the grid from high demand period to low demand period. The algorithm will be applied to a power system based on simple models from literature (e.g. electrical vehicle battery charging/discharging, wind farms, power plants). The algorithm will be tested via simulation results. en
