ΠερίληψηEquilibrium coefficients (k-values) play a fundamental role in describing and understanding the phase behavior of reservoir fluids either inside the reservoir or on their way to the surface facilities. They correspond to the ratios that the concentration of each component in the vapor and in the liquid phase should exhibit so as to ensure thermodynamic equilibrium. The goal of this study is the evaluation of various k-values estimation methods at several pressures and temperatures against experimental data which has been obtained from several fluid samples. For this purpose, a PVT experiments data-base is utilized to provide the necessary data for the estimation of k-values at several conditions. The data-base contains data collected through a set of surface flash expansions and differential liberation studies. Furthermore, k-values are estimated from the application of the correlations of Standing (1979) and Wilson (1968) at the same conditions and the results are compared while further taking into account the range of application. More specifically the behavior of the k-values of light, intermediate and heavy components is examined as the pressure increases by means of charts and it is compared to the typical, theoretically derived k-values curves. In general good agreement is observed in the results between the two approaches at relatively low pressures, which are pressures encountered at surface facilities rather than the reservoir itself. When the pressure exhibits higher values a deviation of the results of both methods in relation to the experimental k-values is observed.en
