| Περίληψη | The subject of this diploma thesis is the study of the seismic hazard of the urban complex of the city of Chania. The implementation is performed utilizing QuakeIST software, which operates in Geographical Information Systems (GIS) computational environment, and in particular, QGIS software. The main aim of this thesis is to realistically define the problem of the seismic hazard and to predict the possible impacts (damages and losses) as well as their probability of occurrence in a future seismic event. Another objective is to formulate a methodology that could potentially be used by the authorities as an effective decision-making tool for the implementation of appropriate techno-economic plans and seismic protection measures to prevent and reduce losses (primarily human, but also financial) in the future. The thesis begins with an introduction to the general concepts of seismology and a brief analysis of the seismic and geological setting of the area of the ,unicipality of Chania. Next, a presentation of general elements and concepts for GIS, and also for QGIS software in particular, is provided. Subsequently, in the main part of the thesis, initially, the basic information regarding QuakeIST software are presented and its functions are described. Then, the process of studying the Chania urban complex is described in details, and finally the obtained results are presented. The thesis concludes with the interpretation of the results along with a comparison with previous relevant studies in the examined area. Finally, suggestions for future continuation of this investigation are provided. | en |
