Augmented Reality has been used increasingly in recent years in many fields such as medicine, education, the automotive industries, etc. In this thesis, a geometrical application for mobile devices is developed, which uses Augmented Reality technology as a basic visualization tool for 3D CAD models and modify them at a later stage. More specifically, the application uses the Augmented Reality target recognition feature, in order to import solid models into a processing environment. In this environment, through a series of geometric transformations, the user is offered a better understanding of the model. The most basic functions include pan, rotation and magnification of the solid object.The most significant scientific aspect of this thesis is the implementation of a section operation of a 3D model. The section operation is implemented through a series of computational geometry algorithms applied to the mesh of the examined model. The application offers additional functions such as the calculation of the surface, volume and weight of the solid object as well as access to its basic information, such as its dimensions or its triangle count. The users of the application may also store the model locally on their mobile device for offline editing. Finally, in most cases, it is possible to view the mechanical design of the solid model.
