The starting point of this research has been the workers’ housing development during the period of Lavrio’s new formation as a planned city, which was created and evolved alongside the country’s mining and metallurgical industry. The coexistence of the industrial settlements with the mining operations contributed to the creation of a particular style. The aim of the research is to investigate and recognise the influences of eastern and western culture in the core of housing, tracing back to the evolution of workers’ housing during the late 19th and early 20th century in Europe, a period of mass migration and radical changes in the housing sector. In the process, we focus on the people who arrived in the area of Lavreotiki from 1865 to 1930, as well as on how their socio-cultural background was expressed with spatial elements. In short, four settlements are selected according to these criteria and their internal structure is examined. The strategy followed by the social housing programs is also analysed, while creating the dynamics of city formation. Finally, the findings of the survey, in conjunction with the previous analysis, are being considered, while the question arises as to which role the city of Lavrio would play in the housing sector in view of the changes that are taking place.
