The aim of this master’s dissertation is to present an urban planning proposal, for the development and revitalization of the historic core of the city of Rethymno. Since a historic center reflects the vivid life of a city as it has been designed and constructed over the years in an urban unity, the proposal seeks to fulfill its current needs.Through the re-organization of the public places, the replanning of the systems, networks and land uses, as well as the proper building restrictions, the proposal aims to achieve the revitalization of the historic center and tis best connection to the modern city. Τhis proposal intents to a viable urban planning with an active role in the modern life, but mostly with respect to the memory and the value of the past.
