The present thesis aims to the simulation of the groundwater flow and to optimize pumping scheme in the area of Moires, Heraklion Crete. This thesis initially provides some general information about groundwater and our study area. In the first part the mathematical background of the underground flow simulation models is presented as well as some of the basic equations of groundwater flow. Reference is also made to finite difference models and data. In addition the mathematical model of PTC, is employed and the reference to Argus One program is presented.Since the groundwater flow equation for unconfined aquifers is nonlinear in the present thesis a piece linear approach is present to linearize the problem and determine a groundwater management solution of an optimal pumping scheme. For the solution of this problem the Simplex Method is used.Specifically, nine pumping wells were selected and nine observation wells where, with the help of the PTC mathematical model the objective is to minimize pumping cost subject to a set of hydraulic head constraints. The data we have are for the years 2008-2009.The program had to run four times until the results converged to the optimal solution for pumping supplies. The results have shown that some wells should remain closed and others pump at their maximum capacity
