Nowadays, it is clear that cultural heritage, which must be preserved, includes not only the material production of arts, buildings or residential complexes, but also all those relationships that human communities form in their place of living, in the context of their history and tradition, which, ultimately, co-shape the identity of the place. After all, the word cultural comes from the word culture, that is, the totality of the material and intangible creation of a group of people during its evolution, a reference that effortlessly leads our thoughts to the direct connection of the concept with the identity of these people.Given the above, the theme of this study from the beginning was placed in the context of the landscape-monument relationship. The architectural design of this study aims to restore, revive and highlight a cultural landscape and retrieve its memory and identity, creating a new place of coexistence, a landscape where nature, modern man and man-made structures are directly related.The personally familiar landscape of Crete has been the basis of the search from the beginning, as it reveals in many places and in the depths of time and history the reconciliation of man with his place. The landscape of the Lassithi Plateau is chosen as the subject of this study and design. Focusing on the “Seli Ampelou” area and a series of windmills that were installed there and today remain inactive, this dissertation attempts to transform and restore the neglected cultural and productive landscape, preserving the memory of its ancient human use and creating a new local entity.
