Summary

The present thesis attempts a set of interventions in the premises of the preserved porcelain production factory of Chariton Triantafylopoulos, in the center of Nea Makri-Attica. It is an industrial complex that operated from 1950 to 1969, supplying electrical material to the PPC. It was linked to the historical and collective memory of the region, as it was the reason for its electrification and provided jobs for its inhabitants. Today, this area consists of the abandoned factory building, which, combined with the unused public spaces surrounding it, creates an awkward and inhospitable city center area. This work aims to reintegrate the area into the urban fabric and create cultural facilities that will address the wider area's residents. It is proposed to develop an artistic, creative, and recreational complex centered on the former industrial building. This complex will include, among other things, a municipal conservatory with a recording studio, a cooking workshop, classrooms and meeting rooms, recreational and entertainment areas, as well as an exhibition space referring to the history of the building. Part of the proposal is constructing a new building to house the Municipal Theatre & Summer Cinema. The basic principle of the design is the respect of the new building structures concerning the listed building, the effort to engage in conversation with it, and the harmonization with the natural and urban environment.
