Summary

Topographic maps for environmental studies are widely used today. They are made faster than in the past thanks to the developments of technology and to the particularly rapid development and wide use of computers which have influenced both cartographic work and the creation of maps. In cartography, the use of computers has helped to create organized databases that enable cartographers to access a vast amount of information covering a wide range of sectors. The process of producing maps is investigated in the light of environmental engineering. Through the reception and processing of topographic data, the environmental components that affect the local ecosystem are analyzed and the inseparable relationship between the environmental engineering and the science of topography is highlighted. The methodology used to write the dissertation is divided into four distinct parts. Initially, the offered data of the area that we choose to examine is investigated. Data are then collected on the application, of both topographic and environmental interest. Such data are various isosceles curves and generally references to terrain of the area, statistical data (census data), but also data related to the environmental problem facing the area. The collected data are then processed as new ones are created through the digitization process for the final creation of digital thematic maps.Geographic Information Systems (GIS) were used to utilize the above data and to implement the digitization and compilation of the map. A database has been created that allows us to study, process, create and compare data and information.Through the results and conclusions the reader can understand the importance of the presence of a network of data of topographic and environmental interest aimed at human development always ensuring the protection of the environment. Finally, proposals are made for the development and enrichment of the data we have at our disposal. This dissertation can be a basis for further study.
