This thesis focuses on the study of a hybrid building program, consisting of the museum of underwater antiquities and the new ship terminal in the port of Heraklion.The study area is located at the turning point between the old Venetian harbour and the new port, an area with characteristic spatial discontinuities and the involvement of different structural scales. The significant landfilling of the area, which consists of a series of abandoned buildings and large parking lots, further intensifies the complexity and sensitivity of the area.The basic design concept of the proposal is based on the void and the search for the path following it. Through the subtraction of spatial volumes, the conditions are created to meet the user’s needs of functions, circulation and natural light. The motivation behind this decision lies in the search for the experiential interaction with the space, through the antithesis created by the void-volume dipole and also in the need for functional bridging of the two ports of Heraklion.
