Summary

This research Thesis is a handbook for injection grouting, a restoration technique for severely damaged masonries and belongs to the structural engineering domain. This method is related to the restoration and conservation of historic structures. This Thesis is aiming to adress the importance of protecting monuments and to justify why grouts are established as a restoration method for this kind of structures. In addition, special emphasis is given to the necessity of thr compatibility between the grout materials those used in the original structure. In this work are mentioned: the raw materials, general features and properties of grouts, (information of the evolution of the process and their implementation, as well as the main categories of grouts in relation to the nature of the raw materials (organic - inorganic) . Inorganic grouts are classified according to the type of mortar used as a base (cement, lime, clay). Additionally, the most common admixtures that can be embedded into the grout mixture and the method of preparation are remarked. Reference is also made to the properties of the grouts both in the fresh state (fluidity, penetrability and volume stability) and in the hardened state (physical- chemical and mechanical properties), as well as to the main laboratory tests, which utilize a specific methodology to assess those properties. Once the grout has been prepared and tested, it is injected into the structure (masonry, decorated surface). Thesis concludes with a presentation and detailed description of the process of implementing grout to various structures.
