Summary

In this thesis, the use of shunted piezoelectric circuits for the damping of mechanical oscillations is studied experimentally. Mechanical oscillations are a common phenomenon in various mechanical systems and can lead to vibration, noise and reduced performance. To address these issues, piezoelectric systems and their applications have attracted the interest of many researches as they are a promising method for damping mechanical oscillations. The objective of this experimental study is to investigate the effectiveness of piezoelectric shunt circuits in damping these oscillations. This thesis includes the basic theory of piezoelectrics, shunts and how they can be used to damp oscillations as well as the conduct and the results of the experiment. The experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of shunt piezoelectric circuits in the damping of mechanical oscillations.
