ΠερίληψηThe CO2 methanation reaction has received great attention over the last years, as it can have a variety of applications ranging from Power-to-Gas (P2G) to biogas upgrading. The development of active and stable, but also low-cost CO2 methanation catalysts with a high CH4 selectivity is an integral part for their industrial applicability. Ni-based catalysts generally meet the criteria of low cost and high activity/selectivity but they can lack on low-temperature activity and stability. Thus, the synergy between Ni and another transition metal phase is considered by many as an effective strategy to counter these drawbacks. The formation of NiFe bimetallic catalysts is quite popular in the literature since Fe has the ability to dissolve into the lattice of metallic Ni and tune its electronic properties. Through a careful choice of the Fe loading compared to Ni, as well as the choice of an appropriate catalyst support, Fe can significantly promote the low-temperature catalytic activity of Ni-based catalysts and protect the active CO2 methanation phase from oxidation and/or hydroxylation.en
