Summary

Soil contamination poses a unique threat to both the environment and human health due to the prolonged presence of toxic substances present in the soil. Unlike other types of contamination, hazardous elements remain in the soil for long periods, requiring specialized treatment techniques. The different properties and compositions of these toxic substances pose another challenge, with some being extremely hazardous, while others can benefit soil processes. This variance requires specific handling protocols and some substances may prove more difficult to process than others. Despite this complexity, there is no single solution for the safe management of soil waste, making it a pressing issue in today's world. This thesis studies the context of soil decontamination of heavy metals using plants. The aim of this particular work is to highlight the contribution of phytoremediation for the decontamination of soils from heavy metals, as the title of the thesis suggests.
