Summary

The aim of this dissertation is, on the one hand, the analysis of the effects on the tourism industry of Greece during the period of the health crisis COVID-19 and on the other hand the new state of affairs, with which the Greek tourism product is called upon to continue to survive. First, the concept of pandemic will be studied, and certain concepts will be presented, so that the reader can understand - even more - what a pandemic means. Then, it will be analyzed how the measure to deal with the pandemic, i.e. the quarantine, but also the huge economic impact that the pandemic had on the Greek as well as on the foreign visitor, affected travel and travel in Greece in general, since one of the main phenomena of the pandemic was the unprecedented reduction in travel worldwide. Furthermore, it will be studied which are the businesses in the tourism sector that were most affected during this period, resulting in the phenomenon of the recession of the tourism product in Greece. Finally, the new reality created after the end of the COVID-19 pandemic that Greek tourism has to cope with will be analyzed, but also how the tourism industry reacted and is reacting to this situation.This particular thesis is of interest, as tourism is one of the main economic sectors and a source of income in our country and its main goal is to understand and inform the reader about the consequences that the tourism industry in Greece has been and will be faced with.
