This thesis investigates the environmental and energy benefits from various combinations of alternative municipal solid waste management methods in terms of greenhouse gas emissions savings. The analysis was based on real data related to the operation of Athens International Airport for the years 2022 and 2023. In order to produce the results and perform all necessary calculations, the WARM (Waste Reduction Model) computational tool was used. WARM is a user-friendly tool for assessing greenhouse gas emissions and energy consumption, suitable for individuals with varying levels of expertise and knowledge. The types of waste analyzed in this study include paper, plastics, tires, aluminum, mixed or other metals, glass, organic waste, and mixed electronic waste. Regarding the results, the main savings metrics examined in this study are metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (MTCO2E), barrels of oil, passenger vehicles, and gallons of gasoline.
